They spent a day filming the Kalmar Nyckel because it's the only vessel afloat that resembles the Ghost Ship. Afterwards, they gave us a talk about the wreck and showed us pictures of their work. They are producing a documentary that should appear in the spring of 2011 (March or April) on the National Geographic channel. <description>A post in Rick Spilman's Old Salt Blog has drawn my attention to the tragic loss of a replica of the 17th century flagship of the Dutch East India Company in Holland. Fire broke out on the Prins Willem around midnight but firefighters couldn’t bring the blaze under control.

The Lottery fund has provided the additional funding to get the restoration back on track (well 1 year late) and the ship should now open to the public again next spring.

She takes people of all ages on adventure voyages of 2-3 weeks or more through the tropical islands of the South Seas and gives them an authentic experience of square rig sailing to the destinations Cook first explored.

<description>A replica 16th Century junk has sunk off Taiwan, one day short of completing an epic voyage to the US and back

The Ming dynasty-style Princess Taiping was trying to prove that China's greatest admiral, Zheng He, could have reached North America 600 years ago.

After surviving several storms during its 10-month voyage, the junk broke in two and sank after it was rammed by a freighter just off Taiwan's coast.

All 11 crew members were rescued after being found adrift on the wreckage.

<description>HMS Ontario, a 22-gun sloop of war sank in Lake Ontario during a gale on 31 October 1780 with the loss of the 130 souls on board. The wreck has now been discovered in the Great Lakes, North America, and is said to be an archaeological miracle as the oldest confirmed shipwreck and only fully-intact British warship to have been found in the lakes. The ship is still the property of the British Admiralty and is being treated as a war grave.

A great opportunity to learn seamanship and experience life aboard a square-rigged warship. Her captain, Walter Rybka, has a very informative article in the latest number of <i>Sea History</i>.
