John Paul Jones, A Sailor's Biography by Samuel Eliot Morison

Post by 80 Winters on Wed 28 Mar 2012, 03:36

"In 1959 Samuel Eliot Morison's John Paul Jones: A Sailor's Biography was published. For the first time it applied to the story of a legendary captain the painstaking research of a great scholar, combined with the judgement of a fine historian, the experience of a veteran sailor and, not least, the talent of an exceptional writer. The book became an immediate bestseller and won the 1960 Pulitzer Prize for Biography."

The adult life story of another "fiery Scot", much like Cochrane (but a common man) he was smart, brave, daring, impatient, and quick to judge what, and who, he believed to be unfair or wrong.
Takes you through the multitude of "twist and turns" , but never a "change of tack".

I liked it and felt I had "learned the man" by the time I finished. It's in my library.
