Well, I read both books over the past few days whilst holidaying in St Malo, and I really enjoyed them both. As has been said, they are technically good and the second, Mr Midshipman Fury ends in a way which definitely leads me to believe that a third book was intended.

I think I'll try and get in touch with Mr Beard or his publisher to see if anything further is forthcoming, it would be a shame to just stop with an unfinished story.

No luck with finding anything on the Internet. I've sent an email to the This Is Lincolnshire site, but I think I'll write to the publisher as in the previous post and hope to get an answer.
Will keep you all updated.

Re: G S Beard Discussion

Greetings everyone, just found the group and I am sure I will find it most helpful as I am an enthusiastic amateur on the subject and I am now enjoying my retirement by reading as much 1793-1815 Naval Fiction as I can.

I enjoyed Midshipman Fury but find Lieutenant Fury, my current read, spoiled by a couple of points 1) It starts with him on his way home from the East Indies and having experienced Cutting out expeditions, Boat Actions and fights with Privateers. This is 1793 and they don't know if they are at war with France yet so who were they fighting for 2 years? and 2) He appears to go very quickly from New Entry to Lieutenant, I don't think that even Lord Cochrane did it that quickly and he had 'book time', was older and an uncle who was a very senior Captain, and alive.

Despite those points, they are good yarns and won't stop me reading them.

I bought these books together soon after the 2nd book Lieutenant Fury was released in 2007. Has all the "markings" of a new series: beginning in 1792 just as things are heating up on the continent, comes to join as a midshipman, comes from a "naval family" (but with a "checkered" past). While I've seen variations of this story before (lighthearted middy cast into the furnace of combat and comes out the acting Lieutenant made of steel) its worked before and probably always will, at least for me. Both books were "good reads" to me, so I'm ready for book #3.

But herein lies the problem...."where is book #3", it's been 5 years since the release of Lieutenant Fury. The author is only 37 years of age. However, he's a "full time" accountant and that appears to be his primary vocation. He hasn't (to my knowledge) published any other books. His bio from just a few years back states that he's totally into HNF in the AOS.

Has anyone written the publisher? (Century/Random House, 20 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London, SW1V 2SA) If not, I will give it a go and report back.
