Found an interesting artice about another clipper like Cutty Sark which has ALMOST survived. The City of Adelaide became HMS Carrick.

Let's hope they are successful in raising enough funds to save the ship. It would be great to see her back in the water, unlike the Cutty Sark which will have great supports attached to the hull so that it can 'float' above an exhibition hall.

In the UK there is a great tradition of amateurs saving our historic infrastructure with groups doing an excellent job of preserving steam railways and canals. Lets hope a similar enthusiasm for our maritime heritage can be generated.

I haven't heard about the Falls of Clyde, perhaps you could start a thread with some links about this? I'm sure members would be interested.

The Cutty Sark fire was a terrible thing, although there are a number of other interesting and historic ships/hulls that quietly rot away without drawing any attention. It would be good to have some form of listing (as with buildings in the UK), where some responsibility is taken for their welfare.

This ship is still under threat. The Australian website about the ship http://cityofadelaide.org.au/ is now very comprehensive about the history of the ship and well worth a visit. I also found another video

According to BBC News the ship has now been occupied by a local Councillor to draw attention to her plight

The Old Salt Blog has pointed out an article in the Sydney Morning Herald that prominent Australians have written to Gordon Brown in an effort to stop demolition of the ship.

Looks like there might be some progress on saving the ship, and it will be sent to Australia. Scottish Culture Minister Fiona Hyslop has now named a group from Adelaide, Australia, as the preferred bidder but campaigners from Sunderland said they would fight on to bring the ship back to the North East.

Wow! It would be truly wonderful to see this clipper ship saved and sailing to Australia.

I don't think we will ever see her sailing again. As I understand it, the proposal is to load her on a barge and tow her out there (similar to how they recovered the SS Great Britain from the Falklands) and make her part of a static exhibit, a bit like the Cutty Sark I assume
