Falls of Clyde

Post by susan on Sat 06 Dec 2008, 06:25

Background information about the ship: Falls of Clyde - National Historic Landmark Study

Unfortunately, she no longer looks like the picture in the above link. This is what she looks like now, after Bishop Museum had her prepped for scuttling: Falls of Clyde - August 2008

The group trying to preserve her: Friends of Falls of Clyde

Recent article: Falls of Clyde artifacts missing

She is scheduled to go into dry dock this month. We need $65,000 to cover the tow insurance and labor costs.

This is really interesting. I find it amazing that a museum could act as it has done and just give away artifacts without any records being kept.

Does the ships status as a National Historic Monument give you a legal right to recover any you track down? I hope so. Perhaps you should have a page where 3rd parties can report any they know about anonymously.

I wish you and your fellow enthusiasts the best of luck in preserving the ship for the enjoyment of future generations.

I've been working on a photographic record of the Falls of Clyde as she is today. If anyone is interested, I have posted some of the images on my blog:

The group trying to preserve this ship, the 'Friends of the Falls of Clyde', are one of the nominees for a grant from the “Save-A-Landmark” program. To support this project you can vote for them online

Obviously projects of this scale take time and patience along with much dedication and perserverance, but as this shows.....they can be done.
