17th Century replica ship destroyed by Fire
A post in Rick Spilman's Old Salt Blog has drawn my attention to the tragic loss of a replica of the 17th century flagship of the Dutch East India Company in Holland. Fire broke out on the Prins Willem around midnight but firefighters couldn’t bring the blaze under control.

Such a shame - fortunately no one was injured.
It really accentuates why fire was so feared on sailing ships.

Does anyone else find it odd that within the last few years, tall ships around the world have fallen into an odd trend of catching fire in the middle of the night? First the beautiful clipper 'Cuttty Sark' and now the 'Prins Willem'? The way in which these fires started are far too similiar. They may have chalked the Cutty's engulfment up to an unattended restoration project, but looking at the starting point of the fire.. it seems like arson to me.

Speaking of 'Cheek', are you meaning to give it, sir?

I'm no longer sure. If none of your posts were intended in jest, I do apologize. Some of them seemed a little off-the-wall, so I may have jumped to an erroneous conclusion.Capt._Sidney_Cochrane wrote:reb01501 wrote:![]()
