Particularly worrying that the restoration work may have not been done properly.
As it's a commissioned ship perhaps the Navy should get the defaulters back to picking oakum to the fix the leaks!

I suppose there's always a danger that restoration work can cause unintended damage, but it's kind of scary that they knew so little about the function of critical components before starting the work! This is the sort of thing where thorough historical research into wooden ship construction is imperative.

That is a shame. I don't know who said that "a nation that does not respect its past - has no future" but it certaunly applies here.
With modern technology and sophisticated polymers it should be not too difficult to immunize the Victory against rot.
