HMS Victory in Peril

Post by Maturin y Domanova on Tue 11 Jan 2011, 01:15

This report is very worrisome:

Particularly worrying that the restoration work may have not been done properly.

As it's a commissioned ship perhaps the Navy should get the defaulters back to picking oakum to the fix the leaks!

I suppose there's always a danger that restoration work can cause unintended damage, but it's kind of scary that they knew so little about the function of critical components before starting the work! This is the sort of thing where thorough historical research into wooden ship construction is imperative.

And Admiral, your sentiments are mine exactly!

That is a shame. I don't know who said that "a nation that does not respect its past - has no future" but it certaunly applies here.

With modern technology and sophisticated polymers it should be not too difficult to immunize the Victory against rot.

Some more news on the ships future as they are proposing to hand it over to a museum. See this Old Salt Blog post for more information
