A classic: Medicine and the Navy 1200-1900 Vol. III 1714-1815

Post by lindacollison on Fri 03 Jun 2011, 04:48

This oldie-but-goodie by Christopher Lloyd and Jack L.S. Coulter is not as arcane as it sounds and may be of interest to readers with non medical backgrounds. For instance, Section II is devoted to The Medical History of the Wars of the 18th Century. Section I deals with the roles of the Sick and Hurt Board, the Surgeon, Physician, Apothecary and Dispenser, as well as the cockpit, sick berth and the hospital ship. This book need not be read cover to cover but can be randomly browsed for enjoyment, or used as reference for authors.

Author Christopher Lloyd is (or was) an Assistant Professor at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich and Jack L.S. Coulter was Sugreon Captain, Royal Naval Medical School. Published in 1961 by E. &S. Livingstone Ltd., Edinburgh and London.

My husband bought this for me; he found a used copy on line. It has been one of my favorite resources!
