Captain Cook: Master of the Seas is one I'm compelled to read, as I have read (and own) most of the books written about the great navigator. Back in 1999 Bob and I had the unforgettable experience of serving as "voyage crew" aboard HM Bark Endeavour replica on the voyage from Vancouver to Kealakekua, Hawaii (where Cook met his end and where a monument to Cook is maintained.) There followed a sort of reinactment, with Hawaiians paddling out in the bay to greet us, and the officers rowed ashore in the pinnace for a ceremony of hula and mele. Extraordinary! (Author Victor Suthren was the historian aboard on that voyage; he is included in Astrodene's index. A good writer is he, and a fun shipmate!)
