Dried Lime, Anyone?

Re: Dried Lime, Anyone?
FURTHER COMMENTS ABOUT THIS ITEM: A dried lime, c.4.7 cms in diameter, incised and inked with the inscription 'HMS Pandora'. Hard as a rock and obviously extremely old; no cracks, damage or weak points, just the tactile, hand-worn, unyielding surface. Presumably brought back as a souvenir by a member of the crew.
A bit of speculation (no guarantees!): Now wouldn't it be nice to think that it was brought back by a crew member of the first HMS Pandora, (see two articles below) sent out to capture the 'Bounty' mutineers. No real reason why it couldn't be. It's of extreme age; the crew survived when the ship foundered (though would a man have time to save a lime souvenir, or did he make it later, or did the survivors live off limes - suitably tropical of course?)
It could be from a later 'Pandora', but some of those don't seem suited to sailing in lime-growing climes; one was a Coastguard vessel, another an Arctic ship and another a depot ship. Another fact which suggests age is the writing. Note the 18th/early 19th century-looking loop to the 'H', the elegant copperplate 'P' and the definitely old-looking serifs on the capital 'S', all very Georgian-looking. As I say, I offer absolutely no guarantees as to date, but the exact origin of the item is something which is now lost in time and my speculations could be valid. It's likely that a sailor in tropical climes would bring home a souvenir of a particularly memorable voyage and what could be more memorable than the dramatic voyage of that first HMS Pandora? Anyway, I like it, and I'm staring it at £29.99. I don't intend selling at a give-away price, just in case it is a Bounty-related item!
(speculation copied as I expect the link will go dead)
I'm just picturing a starving crew in the ships boat, One man standing with his knife drawn to defend himself, snarling "You ain't 'avin it mates. I'm sellin' it on ebay"
