That's interesting news.

The Associated Press article about it has some underwater photos of a brass cannon. It also says

Its research ship, Odyssey Explorer, is equipped with a remote underwater robot capable of carefully removing the smallest of items from the bottom and shooting high-resolution photos and video.

As it's got video, lets hope for a television documentary in due course.

Did anyone hear about the stink the Spanish government is once again making about wrecks found in their waters? Why is it that all waters are not international? Countries should stop at their coastline. At least when speaking in terms of exploration and salvage.

There would probably be endless arguments about what constituted coast line. Where does the sea end and a wide tidal river start. The Bristol channel eventually becomes the River Severn but you would be hard put to decide where. Indeed the Thames is tidal beyond the houses of parliament and I watched a recent televison programme where it was argue that the banks beyond the houses of parliament were in fact coast.

Shhh don't tell the Spanish trawlers

The three mile limit was so introduced because, at the time, three miles was the furthest a projectile could be thrown. If they tried the same thing now...

If they tired it now, the oceans would be nothing but barricades.
