Thanks for asking, Matt. Just received the back blurb from the publishers:

Alaric Bond combines historical fact with compelling fiction to produce another gripping story in his “Fighting Sail” series.

1798 and Ireland is ready to rise up against years of repression and injustice. Are they rebels, or patriots? Supported by a mighty French invasion fleet, they prepare to claim their land, but are countered by a powerful British battle squadron. Two friends and former allies, separated by chance and circumstance, bear witness to opposing sides as storms, political intrigue and personal conflicts abound. Experience the gathering pace as The Patriot's Fate sweeps men and women towards a final, climactic, and devastating naval action.

Looking forward to this one. I'm currently halfway through Cut and Run.

The Patriot's Fate Empty Re: The Patriot's Fate

Post by MattWillis Sun 19 Aug 2012, 21:35

Sounds fascinating, with luck I will have finished the preceding books by the time it appears. My wife is Irish so I have an added interest in the United Irish Rebellion side of things too.

I know what you mean about publicity. I had to write some blurb for one of my non fiction books and couldn't stand it. Far better to have others do that kind of thing. Doesn't help that my background is in PR...

Good News

I'm approaching the mid-point on Cut and Run and I was beginning to get the same feeling I had when reading Woodman's Ebb Time.

Again.......... Thank You, Mr. Bond

The Patriot's Fate Empty Re: The Patriot's Fate

This is becoming almost 'sinfully easy'............go to Amazon, press button, book appears. So now, it's on to The Patriot's Fate and what I expect will be another 'full course' of this delightful meal Alaric is 'serving up' for us......and I trust that this is not going to be 'the dessert'.

The Patriot's Fate Empty Re: The Patriot's Fate

Post by 80 Winters Sun 09 Sep 2012, 02:37

Tried to stretch this one out, but 'alas all good things must end'.

Having the opportunity to read all 5 novels in this series.......So Far. I was able to meet the primary characters at the beginning and follow them through a period of 5 years actions, growing friendships and intrigues. All the makings of a good and long series.

The authors writing style makes for a 'comfortable read' much like a smooth sail. However, the detail of the combat sequences as they affect both the mettle of the men and the wood of their ship is as good as the best I've read.

My praise for this series is bespoke in my reviews of the 4 preceding novels and The Patriot's Fate was a pleasure to read....from page one.

But now Mr. Bond (as Dicken's waif said) 'more Sir, can I have more?'.

This series is in my Kindle library....on the top shelf, in the cloud.

Thanks you for the kind words, 80 Winters. I'm glad you have enjoyed the series (so far!). Just having the first thoughts about book six - something a little different, I think, although roughly on the same lines as the others. Certainly I feel the urge to leave home waters again; we'll see...

Another excellent yarn from Mr. Bond. I again found myself ready for the next chapter only to find the Author's Note.
Some of my quibbles from the first book have been resolved: I now see what is intended for King ... I think. I've learned not to try to anticipate what will become of characters in this series.

The Patriot's Fate Empty Re: The Patriot's Fate

Post by MattWillis Wed 03 Oct 2012, 00:55

I'm saving The Patriot's Fate for my birthday later this month. (I am hoping for some Amazon vouchers...) I have very much enjoyed all of the books so far, up to and including Cut and Run. I was a little surprised to find that the latter was all set to take place on an Indiaman but quickly got used to the idea.

A question for Mr Bond - did you have a particular Indiaman in mind when creating the Pevensey Castle or is she a general example of the type?

No particular ship, as such; she was intended to represent a "standard" 800 toner.

Thanks. I know virtually nothing of Indiamen, so it was a fascinating sojourn.

Looking forward to Patriot's Fate very much.

I read The Patriot's Fate over Christmas - I should say 'devoured' as I could not put it down. A great read, easily worthy of the rest of the series, with a more heartbreaking emotional angle than we've seen before. Great stuff, and I can't wait for the next one whenever that might be.

Just downloading this, Thank you Alaric, I am suffering from Mesothelioma and honestly didnt expect to be around for the publication of this book. I look forward to reading it. As with your other books in the series which have given me such pleasure, I have no doubt this one will also keep me enthralled. Wonder if I'll be around for the next one, that would be a bonus !!
My Sincere thanks again.

Thank you both, you have no idea how much encouragement a good review gives (especially when you are in the throws of a problem with the current work!).

That said, the next book (not actually in the Fighting Sail series, but still HNF) is progressing well. First draft is 3/4 completed, and I am hoping to have it ready for delivery by late spring. If you would like to P.M. me with your address, Tony, I will send you a copy as soon as it is published.
