The Admirals' Game [John Pearce series] Empty The Admirals' Game [John Pearce series]

Post by Astrodene Sun 30 Nov 2008, 02:42

Amazon now have a new novel in the Pearce series for advanced sale. The Admiral's Game, due for release in time for Christmas, continues immediately after the previous book with the story still set at the Siege of Toulon and Pearce still trying to get his former captain before a court martial.

You can pre-order it here

The Admirals' Game [John Pearce series] Empty Re: The Admirals' Game [John Pearce series]

Just finished reading this novel. The unusual attitude and interaction of the principal character with his superiors continues to amuse.

The series as a whole is set over a short space of time and is really one story cut into chunks. For those following the series it is a good read. However, there are numerous references to the back story (whilst there are attempts to fill new readers in) but without having read the earlier ones I'm not sure the principal character would make as much sense.

If you are considering this one I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series

The Admirals' Game [John Pearce series] Empty Re: The Admirals' Game [John Pearce series]

I have been enjoying the conceit of hnf through the pov of a radical firebrand. It's also interesting to observe Pearce's growing ambivalence about radicalism as he grows into more command responsibility and faces the excesses of revolutionary France.
