Beneath the Aurora Empty Beneath the Aurora

Found this on audio book and "read" it over the course of several weeks, which might well prejudice my opinion. (I also jumped several volumes in the series - the action takes place towards the end of the Napoleonic War.) With all that in mind, I was a little disappointed with this Drinkwater tale. The battle is well told, if a little costly in lives, but I felt the book itself did not hold together in the same way as others in the series. The ending, even acknowledging the slight twist, was also vaguely unsatisfying. It could be that the character, or the author, is tired; there seemed little left to say and the build up became repetitive, despite the usual excellent nautical detail. I certainly won't be put off reading other Drinkwater books, but this one could have been better.

Yes, I recently read this one again and came to pretty much the same conclusions. Fortunately, my library is well-stocked with the Drinkwater tales, and I can always revisit them when short of reading material.

So long since I read this one I can't remember it at all. I'll probably get rounf to re-reading them one day but have plenty of unread ones on the shelf at the moment
