I'm 'just into it' and liking it already. The 'entry and set up' of the story and characters are well crafted and now I'm ready for 'the action'. I'll return with further thoughts.

The Scent of Corruption Empty Re: The Scent of Corruption

Post by 80 Winters Tue 21 Jul 2015, 23:52

The demands of Summer 'farmer' have waylaid me from my normal reading habits, but I've managed to get in an hour late in the evening before my brain ceases to function, hence my delay in reporting my thoughts on Alaric's latest The Scent of Corruption.

This 'yarn' is a prime example of why I've personally classified Alaric Bond as a 'new classics' author of HNF. His characters show both believable form and recognizable traits, as they interact as a homogeneous 'crew' in the performance of their duties, both routine and extraordinary. The author has woven into his story enough 'hooks' to keep it both fresh and his reader unsure of exactly what might happen next (even the real meaning of his 'title' is left to question).
The reader is treated to various 'actions' of distinctly different natures during a relatively brief span of time, but all still acceptable and believable in the scheme of things. This is very good 'classic HNF' that has me waiting for the next chapter in the fighting sails series.

The Scent of Corruption Empty Re: The Scent of Corruption

As I've said 'more than once', getting older does have its benefits (as in 'memory fades'). I 'read' The Scent of Corruption four years (and many books) ago. Now, I'm going to 'return' via the latest audiobook release from author Alaric Bond and see if this yarn is as good as I remember (see above) or even better the 2nd time around.

The Scent of Corruption Empty Re: The Scent of Corruption

The Scent of Corruption is one of my favorites in Alaric Bond's series. The audio version is quite good - the narrator has quite a range of interpretations, inflections, and accents. It took a little getting used to, having read the series, to hear certain voices you heard in your head a little differently. Still, its always nice to be read to, isn't it?

The Scent of Corruption Empty Re: The Scent of Corruption

Post by 80 Winters Tue 16 Jul 2019, 23:48

Just finished the audiobook version of The Scent of Corruption on my morning walk at Fort Worden.
My original thoughts (above) remain 'spot on' and author Linda Collison 's comment (above) is 'spot on' as well: "It's always nice to be read to, isn't it?. Certainly one of the most 'positive' events we remember from early childhood and it carries on even into later years as well.

The book will be enjoyed better if you read all the books in the series. You will find a lot of characters but it all works out very well. I recommend it.
