Capture of the Danae and a question of prize money
Since the Danae was a valid prize why were the hidden negotiable notes not included in the monies the surprise should have received. It was a huge amount and it would have cleared Aubrey’s debt and bought several ships! In the novel it is never even mentioned and you would think that Jack would have been ecstatic at gaining that big a prize!

That sounds like Far Side of the World and I must confess I've not read it for some time. Interesting point though.

Also consider that the money Stephen had when he was discussing buying the surprise and showed Blaine. Blaine was shocked and said it could buy a new 74 and then some, but Stephen acted like it was nothing. Although he was shocked and frightened of the sum in the small brass box. Blaine also stated the monstrously huge amount could only be for the subversion of a realm. So Aubrey’s share could have been in the order of 500,000 pounds.
