Isaac Biddlecomb series
I have not read any of this series, but as they are set during the American War of Independence and written from the American point of view they are on my wish list. I enjoyed Dan Parkinson's Dalton series which had the same setting so I look forward to reading them.

I enjoyed the series, myself, and hope the author will be able to make a return to it.

Re: Isaac Biddlecomb series
James Nelson is by far the best american novelist currently dwelling in nautical fiction. Wonderful stuff - a must read. I particularly enjoy how well his seamanship is displayed in his detailed writing.
I'm up to his 4th Bittlecomb novel and am looking forward to much more to come.

I just finished the first book of the series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nelson shows good knowledge of "things nautical" in his writing and the story kept my attention. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Re: Isaac Biddlecomb series
Having finished the entire Hornblower, Aubrey and Lewrey series I started looking for another author. I found Mr. Nelson's Revolution at Sea series featuring Captain Biddlecomb. I'm impressed! Forester, Obrian and Lamdbin gave us British navel heros, I'm happy that Nelson has given us an American naval hero to follow. I just hope that he will continue the Biddlecomb series in the future, he's too young to end his career before the Revolution is over.

I agree !! The books are very beautiful and adventurous, the protagonist is real and ideal at the same time. Beautiful reading!

"The French Prize" comes out on Bastille Day!
Is that an 'eloge' or a poke in the eye?

Re: Isaac Biddlecomb series
I've just finished The French Prize (in one sitting) and the first thing I can think of to say is "what a pleasure!".
After miring in a desert of wooden writing, one-dimensional characters, nonsense dialog, unbelievable or non-existent sailing action, and bad grammar and spelling, reading this was like suddenly coming upon an oasis, reminding me of what drew me to HNF in the first place. I await the next in eager anticipation.
